The Marine Art of Claude Buckle R.S.M.A

Claude Buckle was invited to become a member of the R.S.M.A in 1964 after presenting work at their annual exhibition for many years. The steam ships and ocean going vessels which Buckle painted are true a true celebration of sea which is what the society wants to promote.

The best known painting is undoubtedly the poster ‘Racing off Ryde’. The original artwork is shown below. As well painting small boats Buckle painted a large number of ocean going vessels in the 30’s as commissioned work. The second picture along is an example.

In addition Buckle also painted views of the sea often using smalls boats as the main theme in the picture. The next two examples show this.
